Scott D. Bennett DVM Owner

Dr. Bennett received his veterinary degree from The Ohio State University in 1977. He was resident veterinarian for a large breeding farm until 1981, at which time he established Equine Services Surgical Hospital. Dr. Bennett's extensive reproduction case load includes embryo transfer, video hysteroscopy, oviductal evaluation, and stallion evaluation. His surgical practice includes orthopedics (arthroscopy, ASIF), soft tissue (respiratory, reproductive, gastrointestinal), and emergency surgery. Dr. Bennett has pioneered the use of the Nd: YAG laser in a variety of surgical procedures. Currently Dr. Bennett practices and consults on all breeds of performance horses and provides lameness consultation for many of the top trainers throughout the United States.




Charlynn (Char) Brandt DVM

Dr. Brandt received her DVM degree from Colorado State University in 1988. She has special interest in integrating alternative/complimentary medicine with traditional medicine. This interest lead her to become certified in veterinary acupuncture through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) in 1997. Her passion is lameness and working together with owners, trainers, and farriers to design a preventative program designed to prolong the health and performance of each horse.




Richard L. Griffin MS DVM

Dr. Griffin received his veterinary degree from the University of Illinois. Prior to attending veterinary school, Dr. Griffin held several management positions on Thoroughbred farms in Illinois and New York. Dick also obtained a Master of Science in animal science from Southern Illinois University. His research and thesis involved reproductive endocrinology of the mare. His professional interests include all aspects of theriogenology, perinatology, and neonatology. He enjoys ambulatory practice and works regularly with a wide variety of breeds.






Consulting Veterinarians

Dr. T. Douglas Byars DVM, ACVIM, ACVECC

Dr. Byars is a long time resident of central Kentucky. He graduated from the University of California at Davis College of Veterinary Medicine in 1974. Prior to coming to Kentucky he taught at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia until 1983. Following his tenure at Georgia he moved to Lexington and established the internal medicine service at Hagyard Medical Institute. He remained there until 2005. He now has a private practice and serves as a consuting veterinarian. Dr. Byars has published numerous scientific articles, has spoken at numerous scientific meetings and is widely recognized as a leader in the field of equine internal medicine and emergency and critical care.




Dr. Alexia McKnight DVM, DACVR

Dr. McKnight graduated from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997 with a strong interest in pursuing equine MRI as a career goal. Following veterinary school, she finished a post-doctoral fellowship in the MRI Resarch Laboratory at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. She started a radiology residency at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. After completing her residency she stayed on and accepted a faculty position as Assistant Professor of Radiology at New Bolton Center until 2006. Currently she remains dedicated to her long term passion of equine MRI and almost exclusively offers consultation and interpretation services for pioneering practices offering MRI.




Dr. Erica Tolar DVM, DACVO

Dr. Tolar received her DVM in 2003 from the University of Illinois. She completed a one year internship in small animal medicine from the University of Tennessee. Following that she returned to the University of Illinois, completing a 3 year residency in ophthalmology. Dr. Tolar's interests include equine and small animal corneal diseases which have led to several publications and lectures. As a lifelong member of the American Saddlebred Horse Association she is thrilled to have located her practice here in central Kentucky.
